Symphony No. 9 in D minor op. 125
Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony was first heard in public on May 7, 1824, without the composer himself ever having heard it due to his advanced deafness. Since then, the work has entered the consciousness of music lovers to such an extent that every performance becomes an event before the first note is even played. The fusion of majestic music, poetry, vision and faith - crowned by the mighty choral finale "Ode to Joy" - is one of the most transcendent experiences in music and later became an anthem for the European Community and a symbol of peace and freedom.
The Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano together with its choir will ring in the New Year with this masterpiece of classical music in the KKL Luzern in a festive and hopeful mood.
