On stage for over 35 years, each member of the ensemble a proven top musician, it would be obvious to stick the label "tried and tested and never equalled" on the group Blechschaden. But that is only one side of the brass medal; the other, for which they are loved by their loyal fan community, is their tireless dedication to bringing out the fun side of music and thereby making an absurd distinction between serious and popular music. The world-renowned "fun faction" of the Munich Philharmonic demonstrates with each of its performances that any kind of music, whether pop or opera, musical or classical symphony, can become a pleasure if it is presented in the right way, i.e. unconventionally.
In the new programme for their 2023 tour, the philharmonic "foreign legionnaires" again mix the various musical genres into a highly
entertaining cocktail of melodies, garnished with hilarious moderations and interludes. Above all, their Scottish leader Bob Ross reaches quite un-Scottishly into the
in the humour box. Whether "classical music, but with humour" ("Nessun dorma" from Puccini's opera "Turandot"), musical hits "in brass" ("I Don't Know To Love Him" from
Webber's "Jesus Christ Superstar") or a suddenly orchestral pop anthem ("Earth, Wind and Blechschaden Fire"): For all the serious professionalism
With all the serious professionalism with which the musicians master their instruments, one thing is always in the foreground for Blechschaden: to give the audience fun in and around the music.
Is that possible in Bavaria without Bavarian music? Of course not! So something traditional like the "Steingadener Musikantenmarsch" is not to be missed.
